April 1st marked my one-year anniversary as an entrepreneur! What a wonderful experience filled with gratitude, excitement and LOVE! When I was laid off in February 2010, the one thing I knew for sure was that I did not want to return to corporate America. I wanted a different life – one where I marched to my own drum and sang as loudly and as off beat as I wanted to my own song. And so, the first draft of my revised version of ME was born but not without me getting out of my own way and trusting myself and, most importantly, trusting my Higher Power.
It started by me being still – which was the biggest feat of all the tasks. I can not be still. I need to be doing SOMETHING! But this experience forced me to be still – literally in my bedroom one day and just listen to what HE had to say. I created a vision board, called on my Personal Board of Directors, and prayed. What I envisioned turned out nothing like I thought – it was bigger, better, and bolder. It was beautiful! Though my vision remains the same – “Guide others in discovering their seeds of greatness by providing God led inspiration and guidance through personal and profession growth coaching and counseling”– the level of people I would reach has surpassed my intention.
My lessons along the journey have been many, but the individuals I have connected with have been the most telling. I await the day when I can celebrate my anniversary like Oprah, by having some of the influential folks on my show. Until that day, in my upcoming blogs, I will feature people who have impacted my life, kissed my dream and caressed my curiosity. I hope they also inspire you to live your truth.
I moved to Chicago not knowing anyone but left with a contact list longer than the Magnificent Mile. The second person I met was Caroline – now known as Carly to all her followers on Twitter. She had just left BIG CORPORATE AMERICA for a fabulous job at Oprah.com. Now that the show is over, Carly has decided to travel the world and create her own “Eat, Pray, Love” experience. She has learned how to ride a motorcycle, completed scuba diving lessons, learned first aide for wilderness survival — all so she could spend the next year traveling SOLO (YES! Insert Beyonce’s song here – Girls: Who Rule the World) through French Polynesia, Chile, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand – just to name a few!!
Talk about having courage to pursue! Travel your dreams! Learn more about Carly and follow her blog at http://www.travelswithcarly.com/
